Integrated systems controller Cooltech Unicool I for compressor units and chillers.

Unicool I controller for the compressor units is used to continuously measure and monitor the conditions and operating modes of compressor units (pressure, temperature, alternating current in the motor windings) in order to ensure best performance and to protect the equipment and personnel in the pre-emergency situations.

 

The Cooltech Unicool I controller is a freely programmable controller based on Siemens components with specially developed software to automate the operation of refrigeration compressor units and chillers.

These important control units are pre-equipped and pre-configured with the connectivity equipment and protocols necessary for monitoring and controlling a wide range of compressors, compressor units and chillers – as well as using this data for fault-finding and analysis.

The Unicool I controller is designed to:

  • perform automatic measurement and display of monitored parameter values;
  • generate discrete and analog control signals by apparatus devices;
  • keep failure logs;
  • activate warning and pre-alarm signaling when parameters go beyond the preset limits, or when discrete sensors are triggered;
  • self-diagnostics of operation of the control panel, equipment and sensors.

  • Built-in regulator for suction pressure, process temperature.
  • Automatic logging history of warnings and alarms message.
  • The ability to select the configuration of the compressor lubrication system (pumped or non-pumped), select the presence or absence of valves (bypass, oil injection).

The Unicool I systems controller has normal industry-standard communication ports fitted as standard, and therefore does not require additional communication gateways.

Data can then be made available via any kind of network, where virtually any computer can be used to monitor and operate the Unicool I systems controller.

Scope of delivery

Central processor module CPU1215C, expansion modules (depending on configuration), control panel, design, technical and operational documentation.

Scope of the controller measuring channels

1. Pressure measurement channels:

  • at the inlet of the compressor unit (suction),
  • at the outlet of the compressor unit (discharge),
  • oil in the system;
  • oil before or after the oil filter, pressure difference at the filter,

2. Temperature measurement channels:

  • at the inlet of the compressor unit (suction),
  • at the outlet of the compressor unit (discharge),
  • oil in the system,
  • of the cooled environment
  • motor bearings (optional)
  • compressor motor windings (optional)

3. Channels for measuring the current consumption of the electric motor.

4. Channels for receiving analog signals from sensors.

5. Channels for generating analog signal in the range of 4 to 20 mA for

  • the control of frequency regulator,
  • control of charge valve of evaporator / pump circulating stations

 
The controller also is equipped with a channel for measuring the position of the capacity control spool valve. The remaining channels are used to connect threshold devices (pressure switches, level switches, etc.) and actuators controlled by discrete signals.

The function of each channel is strictly assigned to respective input of the main controller board in the wiring diagram.

Software

The software of the Unicool I includes the control panel firmware and the controller firmware

Access to the software is protected by both administrative measures (installation in a separate room) and multi-level password protection.

The following modes of operation with the controller software are provided:

  • monitoring (password not required) - operator access for the purpose of observing the measured parameters;
  • ACS engineer - provides access to change values related to the normal operation of the compressor system as well as configuration and critical preset values;
  • administrator - the level of the manufacturer's administrator.

The controller consists of the following components:

  • primary devices and converters of monitored parameters into direct current (standard range from 4 to 20 mA) and voltage (from 0.5 to 4.5 V) signals.
  • controller line, which includes the central processor module (with an immutable control algorithm, channels of discrete input signals, as well as analog and discrete output signals), expansion modules (modules with measurement/conversion channels of analog input signals and channels of discrete input/output signals), and operator panel.

The Unicool I main controller is part of a project-compatible system, in which the list of parameters to be measured and the types of sensors to be used are determined by the project.

In the Unicool I main controller, the analog output signals of the sensors are converted to digital form and the automatic control signals are generated based on the measurement results. In this case, the alarm events are recorded in the archive file, which can be accessed from the control panel or copied to a flash card and viewed on a personal computer.

The Unicool I is equipped with an industrial network interface Modbus RTU, Profinet and Profibus (optional).
